The School Transparency and Reporting (STAR) Framework is DC's school accountability system. Each school receives a rating of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest, based on its performance across multiple metrics. Not Applicable means the school did not meet the minimum population size to generate a score or was not in operation during the previous school year.

Some schools serve multiple grade spans, such as a school which serves Kindergarten through 8th grade. These schools will have two STAR Framework scores. Those scores are combined into an overall STAR Score for the school, based on the number of students in each grade span. Explore more details on the performance of each framework by student group using the tabs above.

School Support Designations

Comprehensive Support 1

Schools that score in the bottom 5 percent of the total number of points on the STAR Framework as compared to their peers are identified for additional school supports. This designation is made every three years and requires schools to work with their community, educators, parents, and other partners to develop a plan aligned to the needs of their students and school. OSSE makes available significant additional supports and financial supports for schools to develop and implement these plans.

Comprehensive Support 2

High Schools which have graduation rates below 67% in both four-year and five-year cohorts are indentified under this designation. Those schools will develop a plan to improve their graduation rates utilizing supports and programs from their school, LEA, OSSE, and community. These designations are assigned every three years.
